Faculty Salaries Relating to Disciplines Posted on October 9th, 2009 by

Recommendation from the Academic Programs and New Initiatives Task Force:

Provide competitive faculty salaries for those disciplines where Gustavus cannot currently compete for Ph.D. faculty, including the development of a “grow your own Ph.D.s” strategy.

Additional explanation:

Recruiting and retaining appropriate faculty in our pre-professional programs is one of our most challenging staffing issues. We would like to be able to recruit talented practitioners already committed to the College’s liberal arts mission, and work with them to attain the degree credentialing necessary for their long-term success and contributions to the college.

This recommendation was placed in the Quality-Enhancing and Innovative Initiatives Strategic Framework Substantive Category using the language:

Show annual progress in faculty salaries, reaching and maintaining the top quintile of the established peer group; provide competitive relocation expenses, start-up costs for new faculty, and spousal support; and explore the feasibility of an incentive plan to reward faculty, staff, and administrators for superior performance.

This recommendation was placed is Tier 1 and is being monitored by the Provost and Dean of the College.
