Presidents’ Climate Challenge Initiative Posted on October 9th, 2009 by

Recommendation from the Facilities and Finances Task Force:

Work intentionally on meeting the goals set forth in the Presidents’ Climate Challenge Initiative (e.g., carbon emission reduction) and on other aspects of energy sustainability.

Additional explanation:

Stewardship has been a Gustavus tradition. “Environmental Sustainability” frames stewardship with goals of continuous improvement and balancing inputs and is compatible with other aspects of stewardship such as stewardship of financial and human resources. Environmental Sustainability is consistent with our mission, core values, and history.

This recommendation was placed in the Quality-Enhancing and Innovative Initiatives Strategic Framework Substantive Category using the language:

Create a Presidential Environmental Sustainability Advisory Group to promote best practices so the College can meet the goals set forth in the Presidents’ Climate Challenge Initiative, including: reducing energy consumption, shifting to renewable sources, reducing water use, maximizing clean water recharging of aquifers; minimizing the production of material waste and transportation; purchasing recovery-produced commodities; and purchasing locally produced food and other commodities that reflect sustainability.

This recommendation was placed is Tier 1 and is being monitored by the Vice President for Finance and Treasurer.
