Recommendation from the Community Engagement Task Force:

Implement a structure to support a minimum of 25 percent of student housing be theme-based, including communities that link building assignment and academic courses with a faculty advisor.

Additional explanation:

Over the next five years this would involve: Designing a new master plan for Gustavus residence halls that includes the enhancing and expansion of theme-based communities; reviewing current residence hall theme-based communities to determine how to maximize specific learning objectives attached to the programs; and strengthening the role of community advisor to be more active and engaged with the community achieving the student learning outcomes.

This recommendation was placed in the Quality-Enhancing and Innovative Initiatives Strategic Framework Substantive Category using the language:

Implement a structure to support theme-based housing for a minimum of 25 percent of student housing by enhancing already existing communities and creating Learning/Living communities linked to First Term Seminars and other academic courses.

This recommendation was placed is Tier 3 and is being monitored by the Dean of Students and Vice President for Student Affairs.
